you didn't have to stress about buying valentine's day flowers
or getting me a gift every 11th day of the month
you didn't have to feel like you'd have to sacrifice pennies just to make me smile
because that wasn't the way
it wasn't at all
i would have loved you the same
gift or no gift
because to me no present was as breathtaking as being able to call you mine
and to feel your warmth against my skin
i could tell you how your voice made my tears stop when i was trembling
and how everyday i remembered why i chose you from the start
it was definitely not
the fancy big bouquet that made me want to stay
silly
don't you see?
i wish you knew this the moment it began
i wish you hadn't thought of us all wrong
maybe that way we would have lasted till now
and you would just smile as you tuck a fresh daisy from the field in my hair
as we continue to relish in each other's arms
